Expansion of series production

Gesellschaft für Bild- und Signalverarbeitung (GBS) mbH was founded in 1997.
GBS mbH develops, manufactures, and distributes surface metrology technology for the detection and evaluation of micro-geometries, surface structures, and roughness. Our products include:

• Optical 3D sensors

• Optical 3D profilometers

• Gantry measuring devices and near-production measurement stations

Thanks to massively parallel image processing on high-performance GPGPUs (General Purpose Graphic Processing Units), extremely short measurement times can be achieved, allowing the measuring devices and 3D sensors to be used not only in laboratories but also near production lines and inline. The measurement method used, white-light interferometry (coherence scanning interferometry), enables the capture of a wide variety of surfaces with extremely high resolution.

One product line of GBS mbH is 3D surface metrology for micro- and nanostructures based on white-light interferometry, marketed under the name “smartWLI.”
Within the scope of this project, the sensors will be further developed to better address aspects important for serial production, such as cost-effective manufacturing, sustainable production, service-friendliness, and upgradability.

The project started on June 1, 2023, and is funded by the State of Thuringia with financial support from the European Union.
